By: Meridian, a company committed to families and the city of Detroit
Meridian Winter Blast is back in less than a week! The festival takes place at Campus Martius Park in downtown Detroit during the last weekend of the North American International Auto Show, Friday, Jan. 26 through Sunday, Jan. 28.
Meridian Winter Blast hours are 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. Admission to the festival is free with a same-day ticket to NAIAS. Without a NAIAS ticket, admission is $3 or three canned good items donated to Matrix Human Services to provide assistance to those in need during the winter.
Music and Food Tents
The festival includes new and returning features, such as three music stages featuring live performances by local bands and artists. The Food Truck Rally will share plenty of delicious options from Nosh Pit, Crepe Day-Twah, Imperial Ferndale, Bigalora Wood Fired Cucina, Soaring Eagle Casino Cuisine Machine, Sweet Water Tavern, Beans & Cornbread, Hero or Villain, Famous Dave’s, Mercurio Food Specialties, Shredderz, and Mac Shack.
Hit the Ice…and Slopes!
This year, Boyne Highlands and Boyne Mountain are bringing the snowy slopes right to the heart of downtown Detroit for the first time. Event-goers will have the opportunity to be fitted for ski or snowboard gear, partake in a 20-minute beginner lesson, and walk away with special offers from the resorts and Boyne Country Sports. Attendees can also participate in free ice-skating at Campus Martius Park for the entire three days of the festival. Skate rental is available for $4.
Take the Polar Plunge
Also new this year to Meridian Winter Blast is the Polar Plunge! If you’ve never jumped into a pool of water in the middle of winter, we can change that. Each year, the Law Enforcement Torch Run® Polar Plunge series challenges thousands of brave jumpers at numerous locations around the state. Open plunge will be available at Winter Blast from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 27 and 28 with a $10 donation or pre-registration through the linked site. Every plunger will receive a coupon for a free hot chocolate and their choice of voucher for either free skate rental or a free ride on our Meridian Winter Slide! All funds raised go towards year-round sports training and athletic competition for more than 23,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities in Michigan.
