Days might be getting shorter, but summer On the Plaza is just heating up as fresh foods and hoppin’ music continue to rock On the Plaza in August. Everything from creative catchy songs to locally grown Detroit produce will grace the GM Plaza this month.

Need produce for dinner but don’t want to stop at the grocery store? Eastern Market has you covered. The oldest and largest open-air market in Michigan will return to the GM Plaza with locally grown produce every Tuesday, in August from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Catch the market that empowers a “healthier, wealthier and happier Detroit” On the Plaza all month.
Rooftop Yoga is returning weekly with RenCen Fitness instructor Yoga Dan, so be sure you’re stretched and ready to participate every week. If you’re interested in lunchtime Rooftop Yoga, classes will start at 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 9 and Aug. 16. For those of you who love to relax after work, classes will start at 5 p.m. on Aug. 23 and Aug. 29. Register for classes today.
Johnny Stevenson will rock On the Plaza with hard-hitting guitar solos and invigorating vocals on Thursday, Aug. 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Make sure to take a break from work to listen to this crooner’s rock and roll stylings.
Nick & Keelan
Be sure to request your favorite song from Nick and Keelan when they’re On the Plaza Tuesday, Aug. 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., because they specialize in hits. The acoustic duo will perform songs from all generations, so be outside to hear your favorites.
Jake Reichbart & Sarah D’angelo
Up and coming jazz favorites Jake Reichbart and Sarah D’angelo will serenade guests On the Plaza Thursday, Aug. 17. Sarah has performed all over Michigan and the Midwest including the Michigan Jazz Festival and the Mackinac Island Jazz Festival. Jake is a recipient of WEMU-FM’s Emily Remler scholarship for best jazz guitarist. Catch their sultry tunes On the Plaza from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
Returning for the second time this summer, Amy Andrews returns to play twangy bluegrass on Tuesday, Aug. 22 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. On the Plaza. Her sound has been described as “the perfect marriage of Alison Krauss purity and Patty Griffin soul.”
The Alex Guthrie Band
Imagine for a moment the lovechild of Marvin Gaye, Ray LaMontagne, Vulfpeck, and John Mayer; you now know Alex Guthrie and his band. Blending soulful vocals, story-rich lyrics and the organic synergy of the 70’s southern blues bands, The Alex Guthrie Band performs some of the most well-known music of our time. They’re taking over the GM Plaza on Thursday, Aug. 24 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
One Love Reggae
One Love Reggae returns to On the Plaza on Tuesday, Aug. 29 for an encore performance full of colorful music and island vibes. This steel drum band will play all of your favorite happy, fun songs so be sure to stop by between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Known for a sound all of her own, Detroiter Nicole New will share her creative talents with guests On the Plaza Thursday, Aug. 31. Nicole combines jazz, opera and pop styles to recreate older songs in a new fashion.
