Looking Back at 2017 in the GMRENCEN

What a year 2017 was! The GMRENCEN was busy with fun happenings around the building and luckily, our blog captured all of the festivities. As we wave goodbye to year two of our blog, we’re excited to share a few highlights from 2017.

Starting Out With Love

Since February is the month of love, we asked couples to share their love with the world for the chance to win a prize. We highlighted a few of the best submissions in our GMRENCENLOVE blog.

Here’s to Another 40 Years!

We celebrated our 40th birthday with 40 historical facts about the GMRENCEN. Take a step back in time and see the legacy the GMRENCEN has in Detroit.

Rollin’ on the River (Days)

The Detroit RiverFront Conservancy kicked off the summer with three full days of fun right here along the Detroit Riverfront with GM River Days. Music, games, art and even an air show provided hours of entertainment for attendees. Didn’t make it this year? Look out for 2018’s dates!

Summer of Rock

You could hear the jams and feel the energy all over the building when classic rock took over the GM Plaza during the 2017 Chevrolet Rockin’ on the Riverfront Concert Series. For the fourth year, local bands competed to headline a show in Rockin’ Wars.

Spend All Day On the Plaza

Whether it’s shopping Eastern Market, getting a yoga stretch in or listening to one of the many bands, you’re sure to have a fun time on the GM Plaza. If you are ever looking to take a break outside of the office, check and see what’s On the Plaza.

Hop into Applebee’s and IHOP next year

The first Applebee’s/IHOP cobranded restaurant in Michigan is coming to the Millender Center. Enjoy an Applebee’s drink with your IHOP pancakes in spring 2018.

We Reached Our 100th Blog Post

To celebrate our 100th post, we counted the many reasons we love the GMRENCEN. This list is sure to make you fall in love with the building, if you aren’t already.

We Turned 40 in 2017 and so did the Detroit Free Press/Chemical Bank Marathon

A Detroit tradition, the 40th Detroit Free Press/Chemical Bank Marathon took place on Oct. 14. This citywide event brings together thousands of runners, over 4,000 volunteers and even crosses international borders.

New Eats (and Drinks) at the GMRENCEN

Tenants and visitors alike celebrated when our second Starbucks at the GMRENCEN opened. Find the new GMRENCEN-Starbucks on Level 2 across from CVS Pharmacy. Now there’s double the opportunity for delicious Frappuccino’s, salted caramel lattes and our other favorite signature drinks.

You brought your ‘A’ game to the GMRENCEN photo contest

Some of the best photographers across Detroit submitted over 400 stunning images of the GMRENCEN. We had the public choose the winners, and they’ll be displayed throughout the building in 2018.

We Invited You to Treat Yo’ Self

Your busy lifestyle deserves a day off every once in a while. Luckily the GMRENCEN has everything you need to “Treat Yo’ Self” from delectable dinner options to relaxing massages.

We Rang In the Holidays

Did you shop at Holiday Headquarters? This one of a kind shopping experience made its third GMRENCEN appearance bringing shoppers a collection of Detroit themed apparel, pet merchandise, candy, toys and more! Santa also traded the North Pole for the GMRENCEN North Lobby, where tenants and guests got to snap photos with Santa, and tell them what’s on their wish list.

That’s a wrap! Thank you to our tenants and visitors who drive our GMRENCEN blog. We wish you a relaxing holiday and can’t wait for the eventful 2018 we have in store for you.

  1. THANK YOU for inviting Santa back each year. He’s the BEST! I’m one of the folks pictured with him above. Our Team went downtown from the GM Tech Center for our Christmas lunch and to get a picture with Santa. Thanks for posting!

  2. Lots of cool things happening at the RENCEN. I enjoyed one of the complimentary tours last month and learned some cool facts about the building.
