In the Motor City, the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) is kind of a big deal. It’s an even bigger deal when you’re home to GM’s world headquarters. If you’re visiting, or new in town, you’ll notice that downtown Detroit will be completely taken over by NAIAS during the next few weeks. If this is your first time experiencing NAIAS you may have some questions and we’re here to help. Everything you need to know about NAIAS has been answered!
When is NAIAS?
Public showing days for the auto show are Jan. 14 – 21 from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. The last day of the show is Sunday, Jan. 22 and it ends at 7 p.m.
Where should you stay?
Taking in all of what NAIAS has to offer can be a bit overwhelming because there’s so much to do and see. Stay the night at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center, or the Courtyard Marriott and you’ll be just two People Mover stops away from COBO Hall. Staying at a hotel will give you time to recharge your batteries and enjoy the entire auto show.
What transportation options are available?
Staying at the GMRENCEN will give you direct access to the Detroit People Mover and COBO Hall is just three short stops from the building for only $0.75 per ride. Find out more about transportation and shuttles on the NAIAS website.
How can you find your way around?
Finding you’re way around the GMRENCEN can be confusing but when you download the Wayfinder App, you’ll be able to navigate the building like a pro. There are also free daily tours at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. where you can you learn all about the history of the building.
Where are some places to eat?
Almost every kind of cuisine you could want is available in the GMRENCEN. Choose from almost 30 restaurants including fast casual restaurants like Panera Bread, Salsarita’s and Subway to a relaxed atmosphere at Granite City, or fine dining restaurants such as Andiamo, Coach Insignia and Joe Muer.
Where are the good places to get souvenirs?
Stock up on GM gear at the new GM Company Store on Level 1 above the GM Wintergarden. Shop for Camaro branded t-shirts, Chevrolet branded throw blankets, GMC branded jackets and so much more. For more Detroit inspired souvenirs, explore Calumet and Pure Detroit.
