Celebrating 10 Years of GM River Days

For the last decade, Detroiters have enjoyed carnival rides, entertainment, and other festivities right behind the GMRENCEN at GM River Days, thanks to the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy.  General Motors helped launch the Conservancy in 2003 and donated the first half-mile of the RiverWalk with the goal of establishing a gathering place where people can appreciate the beauty of the Detroit River. Today, that vision has come to life, and GM River Days is considered a staple of summer here in Detroit.  Now in its tenth year, the festival continues to bring this community together for family fun as the city’s unofficial kick-off to summer.

From June 24-26 GM River Days will be bigger and better than ever with musical acts, food from dozens of local eateries, rides, and more. Here are all of the fun things you can expect from this year’s GM River Days:

Rides and activities

Back by popular demand zip lines will be available for $15 for one ride or two rides for $25. An airshow will fly over the Detroit River staged by the Tuskegee Airmen National Historical Museum. The airshow is scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 4 p.m. Other activities include Jet Ski demonstrations, river boat tours and the Flagstar Bank Kids Zone.

If you are expecting traditional carnival food you won’t be disappointed. If you consider yourself a foodie, GM River Days will have a wide variety of food from local restaurants including Granite City Food & Brewery, Treat Dreams and Bert’s Marketplace.

GM River Days is full of fun and entertainment for everyone so come ready to hear some fantastic music from musicians such as Patti LaBelle, The B-52’s, SWV, Mint Condition and Jeffery Osbourne. Tickets for these acts can be purchased for $35 and include admission into the festival. A full music line-up is available online.

Hours, parking and cost for GM River Days

GM River Days is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, June 24 – Sunday, June 26. Parking is available near the GMRENCEN and the Detroit RiverWalk, visit the River Days website for a complete list. Admission to GM River Days is $3 and free for children ages 3 and under and for seniors ages 65 and up. Admission is $5 after 3 p.m. GM River Days is offering “Free Friday” this year when admission will be free on Friday, June 24 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. For more information, visit www.riverdays.com/.
